They had two types of knocking hammers that produced two distinct sounds: One was deep, and the other one was sharp. Do you know the reason why?

The deep one indicated that the knocking person was a man, thus the man in the house would answer the door and the woman would have time to put their Ḥijābs on or go to their room.

The sharp one indicated that the knocker was a woman, thus the women of the house would receive the visitor while the man lowered his gaze out of respect.

Western orientalists has often tried to portray Muslims and the Ottomans as womanizers when the reality is that Europe itself was (still is) full of prostitution and children who did not even knew who their real father was.

The truth however, is that the amount of modesty and respect to women shown in the Ottoman era/period based on traditional islamic teachings had no comparison and match in the world at that time.
